Monte Stelle - Soave D.O.C. Classic

Monte Stelle

Soave D.O.C. Classic

This is a 100 percent Garganega fruit from a traditional, 60 years old, single, pergola-trellised vineyard called Monte Stelle (Stars mount) lying on the black lava rocks. It’s full, volcanically smoky, with a rich but still elegant character. It is generous, with flowery and orange-skin notes, and seamlessly balanced. There’s plenty of energy and structure packed in this wine, while remaining fresh and agile. Let’s look at the stars!

    Drinking Window 2023 - 2029

From: Soave - The Long Road Home (Apr 2022)

The 2020 Soave Classico Monte Stelle is dusty and floral with scant notes of peach, yellow flowers and wet slate. It’s a soft yet vibrant effort, with ripe orchard fruits and cool-toned acids that create an extremely likable and high-energy expression. Saline-minerals come through in the lightly structured finish, as the Monte Stelle leaves the cheeks puckered and the palate craving more. Some time in the cellar should help the 2020’s aromatics to further develop.

“Straw-colored with green highlights. Its olfactory profile is characterized by nectarine, grapefruit, almond, sage, hawthorn and a widespread minerality. Taste has a structure that at the initial softness contrasts strong citrine and sapid, with pleasant bitter finish. Just verticality and a velvety touch give it a nice drink. Only steel with maturation on the fine lees”.

Just a visit to the vineyard on Monte Castellaro, selection of MONTE STELLE to touch the choice of the biological approach made more than 30 years ago: here we find 60-year-old vines with sparse bunches, parsimonious productions, now lost clone varieties, a meadow of herbs and flowers, a paradise for butterflies, cicadas and bees of incredible biodiversity.

Volcanic soils, many stones of black basalt for minerals and grass.

To be purchased without hesitation, of mineral profile, able to evolve with time.

    Monte Stelle 2014  La Cappuccina

2014 was not an easy year for Italian winemaking. However, the Soave MONTE STELLE appears be untouched by it. It proves that it is always difficult to hastily judge a harvest and that great wineries such as LA CAPPUCCINA are able to produce incredible wines from difficult vintages. In line with the LA CAPPUCCINA’s traditions, the MONTE STELLE has nice and refined minerals with elegant flower (acacia) and rightly ripened yellow fruit (peaches and apricots) aromas, with herbal (thyme and sage) overtones. The taste is flowing, nicely fragrant and an embittering finish. We chose to pair it with an asparagus risotto and we chose wisely.  Wine Meridian 2nd Edition Italian Wines in the World

Monte Stelle 2013 is excellent and affordable. A single-vineyard from old pergolas on basalt.
LIFE – The name comes from the small church in front of the villa of the eighteenth century, in which the monks once officiated, in Costalunga di Monteforte d’Alpone. The new winery is located 200 meters behind the house. The three brothers Tessari, Sisto, Pietro and Elena, are the leaders of the company that is organic since exactly thirty years. The buildings, the park, the vegetable garden with fruit trees, the green vineyards, the outline of the hills, everything is harmony.
VINEYARDS – The vineyards are within a few kilometers, they are planted for a small part with pergola and the rest Guyot, more suitable for organic farming. The soil is volcanic basalt and flooding near the Alpone river.

    Gambero Rosso 2015 – 2 glasses
Monte Stelle 2013 is very good, played on the ripeness of the fruit.

La Cappuccina is a well-established winery, but under the management of Sisto, Pietro and Elena it has become a point of reference for Soave. It boast around 40 hectares of vineyards in two plots: San Brizio at Costalunga and Pergola in Val d’Alpone. The decision to adopt organic farming practices dates back to 1985, when such an approach was still rare and adopted only by very motivated wineries. Today, production focuses on the classic grapes of the area in addition to small quantities of international varieties that are interpreted in attempt to bring out the best of the terroir. Our favourite was the Arzimo 2011, a Recioto di Soave that charmed us with its full fruit and harmonious palate bursting with sweetness but perfectly balanced. We also loved the new Soave Monte Stelle 2013, that pays on its ripe fruit to give richness to the palate without the help of sugars. Among the reds, we appreciated the fragrance and tautness of the Campo Buri 2010.

  • Espresso 2015

    Espresso 2015 – 3 stars
Monte Stelle 2013 is well balanced and with a good complexity.

Founded by the Tessari family in 1890 and today led by Sisto, Pietro and Elena, this winery, whose name derives from the small private chapel where it was once thought officiate the Capuchin friars, has earned over time a niche of fame. The seriousness in the work is reflected in a production – since 1985 marked by an authentic and “pioneering” organic farming – which is notable for versatility, consistency and reliability in the various types produced, between white, red and dessert wines

  • Bibenda Ais 4 grappoli

    “Bibenda” 2015 Italian Sommeliers’ Association – 4 grappoli / 4 bunches
intense and refined aromas of wisteria, acacia, toasted almonds and citrus zest. Fresh, with savory note that contributes to persistence. Fermentation and maturation in steel. Recommended in combination with risotto zucchini and goat cheese.
The winery is located in Costalunga di Monteforte d’Alpone, a village at the beginning of the Alpone Valley, with its 1,500 hectares of vineyards is the highest density of vineyards in Veneto region. The company headquarters is in Villa Buri Tessari annexed to the chapel dedicated to San Giovanni Battista, where the friars once officiated and hence the name, while the logo is inspired by the styling of its bell tower. Sisto, Pietro and Elena Tessari are the soul of this reality whose motto is to preserve the natural heritage. Trebbiano di Soave, Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenére, Oseleta, a rare and ancient grape variety from Verona, and Garganega make up the pieces of this puzzle.

The name comes from the sixteenth-century chapel on the estate , where the monks once officiated. Tessari have made a cellar near the family villa, close to the Monte Capitello, with a special semi- drying room “fruttatio” on the top floor and an undreground cellar lying directly on the basalt hill floor.
